The auction

When can I start bidding?

Bidding is only possible when an auction is live. There is a weekly quarantine auction from Monday 9 am to Tuesday 2pm. Theme auctions are incidental but will always be announced on the website.

Why is there a minimum bid of 50 Euro’s?

Successfully registering a domain name that is placed in quarantine is not an easy process. We put a lot of time and effort into our registration system. There are also costs incurred in regards to administration and support.

What is a proxy bid?

Every bid that you place on a domain name is the maximum amount you are willing to pay, it does not necessarily mean the current standing of the auction. For more information regarding the auction, take a look at the example auctions. (Log in: menu: help, item 1). During the auction our software will automatically put in a bid for you when someone else places a counter bid. This will be done for you until your maximum amount (your proxy bid) has been reached.

How come I haven’t received the domain name? I have placed the highest bid.

There are multiple parties involved trying to register quarantine names. We strive to be the first party to register the domain name, but we cannot guarantee this. It can also happen that the original owner has decided to extend the lease of the domain name within the 40 days of quarantine.

Can I see which domain names have received an offer?

No, you can only see if you are the highest bidder of the domain names that you have placed a bid for. The downside of this is that you can’t see which domain names are most popular, but the advantage is that you can place a bid on a domain name without attracting attention from others.

Can I adjust a proxy bid?

During the auction you can adjust your proxy bid: Up, to unlimited. Or down, to the amount of the current bid on the domain name. Adjusting a proxy bid generally just means placing a new bid. Every bid that is placed is an proxy bid.

What’s the increase of a bid (via proxy bid)?

Our auction uses increments of 1 Euro.

I won’t be able to be logged on when the auction ends, does that matter?

It depends. We work with a "proxy bid" system.

What is the duration of an auction?

The auctions always run from Monday 9 am to Tuesday 2pm. A total time of 29 hours, excluding any possible additional bid rounds. An extension lasts a maximum of one hour, up to 3pm. In case you have set your proxy bid for the maximum amount you are willing to pay you reduce the chances on a bid extension. An auction will only be extended when a bid creates a new highest bidder.

I’ve won a domain name auction, but it hasn’t been registered to my name yet!

When we register a domain name this will first be registered on name of Domeinguru BV. When the payment process has been completed we will transfer the domain on name of the winner and you will receive the SIDN token (auth. code) to transfer the domain name to a registrar of your own choice. Also, we are sometimes unsuccessful in obtaining a domain name. Often there are multiple parties interested in obtaining a quaratine domain name.

I have successfully won an auction. Am I obliged to take this domain name?

If you have participated in the auction and have won said auction, you are obliged to take this domain name in the event we are successful in registering it for you.

How do I know which domain names are interesting to bid on?

There is information provided with the domain name in the auction, including Google hits, number of Google ads, Wikipedia mentions and Archive.org mentions to help you decide whether a domain name is interesting enough to bid on. There is also a certain score associated to a domain to determine its attractiveness given by us. We also provide a list of "recommended domains" with a summary of all domain names we think are worth looking at.
